I am a rectangle

The cube represents you. You said the cube was green in colour - what does this colour mean to you? Different people see colours in different ways, for instance some say red is passionate and warm, whilst others associate it with anger and agression. Depending on what this colour means to you, this is how your consider your own personality to be.
Similarly, the material of the cube depends on your interpretation. You said it was made of metal - is this a strong material to you, or fragile? If you think its strong, then you feel that you are a strong person, and can be brave or tough when you need to be, whereas if you think the material is more brittle or fragile then you are a person who can be easily upset.
The size of the cube within the desert represents your own 'size', or ego - you said the cube was large in size. This means that you have a relatively big ego, so you enjoy being acknowledged for your actions and to be the centre of attention.
The distance between yourself and the cube is an estimation of how well you know yourself. You said the cube was near - the further away it is from you, the less in touch you feel with your inner self. Perhaps after reading the rest of these answers you'll feel a little more in touch ;)
